About
my name is Matt,
and welcome,
to the Joy of Nerding.
Inspiration
When I was a kid, I would come home from school and tune the televion to one of the 4 channels we received - PBS, ABC, NBC, and CBS. Of these, I watched several shows on PBS. They had a few things in common:
- They all showed you how to do things.
- They were entertaining.
- They were all very chill.
This last part is key - I’d build Lego or do my homework, and these shows didn’t get me agitated, they were all very calm.
It is my intent to capture this same feeling with The Joy of Nerding, and to produce content of that same type - something that you can have on, entertains you, informs you, and doesn’t agitate you.
My pledge to you, the viewer
(i.e. - the rules)
The show will be suitable for all ages.
As I said, I watched these shows when I was a kid. Also, now that I have children, and I want them to be able to watch these shows too.
Caveat: While the show is suitable for all ages, my entertainment recommendations may not be. For example, I may recommend a scary monster movie. I won’t say or show anything which would be objectionable in my recommendation, but the movie may very well not be appropriate for children below a certain age.
The show will not discuss politics.
We all have political opinions. However, this show is not about politics, or social issues, or any of that. I feel that there are enough shows currently covering such topics that I don’t need to engage in that space.
Caveat: When discussing historical wargames, one has to discuss history, which is, of necessity, adjacent to politics, especially when it comes to warfare. In these cases, I will attempt to be as neutral as possible and avoid the political implications. One must remember that, even if one disagrees with the ultimate political goal of a military action, that action can still be impressive in its conception, execution, and the bravery of the soldiers involved.
